Introduction to the Food Security NetworkBackground: History of FAM web-siteFood Aid Management (1989-2004), FAM, was an umbrella organization whose purpose was to "promote the efficient and effective use of food aid resources to help alleviate hunger and contribute to food security". One of the resources associated with FAM was the web-site www.foodaid.org, a centralized point of information sharing, coordination, and best practices for the food aid community. Many of these resources are now housed at the Food Security Resource Center (FSRC) a collection of over 8,600 documents, CDs, and videos managed by and located at Counterpart International in Washington, DC. Many of these documents can be accessed through the online database: http://fsrc.counterpart.org/default.aspx Creation of the Food Security Network siteWhile intending to serve similar informational and coordination purposes, the new web-site, Food Security Network www.foodsecuritynetwork.org intends to broaden its scope by shifting from the food aid resource lens which characterized the focus of the Food Aid Management site. It will seek to serve the broader food security community by posting the latest technical documents, best practices and case studies from food security programs. It will also serve as a place for organizations and institutions to post relevant meeting, training or other event notices along with associated links to similar sites and resources. The creation and management of this site was made possible by support from USAID’s Office of Food for Peace, and is currently maintained by Food for the Hungry with input from other Food Security partner organizations.
